Silver earrings with Serpentino and Porphyry.

SERPENTINO (Greek green porphyry – Lapis lacedaemonius)

Marble with a dark green background with irregular spots of light green or yellow color. In Rome the serpentine was already used in the Augustan age and, with the last of the Flavi emperors, became imperial property. This marble was considered of great value and was very popular and appreciated.

PORPHYRY

This marble, with a dark red background dotted with white or pink, had its quarries in Egypt, and was already used in the Ptolemaic era. In Rome, with Trajan, the extraction and use of porphyry became usual. It was used in sculpture for statues and for sarcophagi and floor inlays. Diocletian made it the exclusive ornament of his palaces.
