20 kt gold earrings with teardrop micro mosaic from the “Vatican mosaic study”.

In the 19th century, the best mosaic artists that Rome could boast worked in the “Vatican Mosaic Studio”. For most travelers on the Grand Tour, Rome was the final stop on the trip. Its squares and monuments have been immortalized by numerous artists in paintings and sculptures, as well as in small masterpieces such as micromosaics in which, in addition to objects of classical inspiration, reproductions of places, common life, animals, flowers were created. These works have amazed and fascinated travelers thanks to the precision of the design, the color tones and the harmony of the composition. The support for the micro mosaics was initially in copper, then stones or glass were also used. The latter have been better adapted to the assembly in gold or silver to transform simple plaquettes into necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings and pendants. During the first half of the nineteenth century it was customary that the women of the Grand Tour had a gold or silver gilt set made of micromosaic plaques, each of which illustrated a different place.
